VFD Cable
Industrial growth has increased the use of machinery powered by variable frequency drives (VFDs) for efficient operation. VFD-specific cables address challenges like electromagnetic interference and voltage spikes, ensuring reliable performance, improved efficiency, and longer equipment lifespan.
Selecting the Right VFD Cable
Several key criteria must be considered when selecting VFD cable such as:
Voltage level: VFD cable is typically rated up to 600V, 1000V, and 2000V. Higher voltage levels require thicker, more robust insulation to resist high voltage spikes.
Cable run length: VFD cable is offered in different configurations for longer cable runs via specific design and construction methods.
Shielding: Different shielding types mitigate potential electromagnetic interference with nearby low-voltage or communications cabling. This reduces EMI/RFI noise.
Flexibility: Flexibility ensures easy installation in tight spaces, supports frequent movement, and reduces cable stress, enhancing durability and performance.
Common Mode Noise: XLPE insulation can reduce common mode current (CMC) which can damage the motor (causing bearing fluting damage).
