Harmonized hook-up wire is intended for use across Europe (i.e. harmonized across European countries) by conforming to standards set by CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and its member nations. Identification of harmonized hook-up wire is typically accomplished with the printed letters <HAR> on the jacket or insulation of the wire, or via printed type or identification threads. While there can be many types of harmonized hook-up wire, the most common types are coded as follows:

Therefore, an H05V-K <HAR> harmonized hook-up wire would have a 500 Volt rating, a standard PVC insulation and is intended for stationary use.  On the other hand, H07Z-K <HAR> harmonized hook-up wire would have a 700 Volt rating and possess a low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) insulation.
