Varflex Corporation

Varflex Corporation, founded in 1924, manufactures superior quality electrical insulating sleeving made from braided fiberglass and other filaments, both coated and uncoated. All sleevings are RoHS, REACH and Conflict Mineral compliant meeting many military, UL and CSA requirements. Varflex is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Varflex, headquartered in Rome, New York, manufactures sleevings that fit various applications requiring electrical protection such as electrical vehicles and charging stations, electrical machinery and equipment, wire harnesses, automotive regulators, starters and alternators, surgical, medical and optical equipment, home appliances, lighting fixtures, aerospace, aircraft, marine and other transportation equipment, welding equipment and other commercial apparatus.

Varflex has expanded operations to include an additional 84,000 square foot facility dedicated to Twisted & Plied Yarns.

In addition to fiberglass, Varflex braids sleeving from nylon, polypropylene, Dacron®, Nomex®, Kevlar®, Spectra®, Basalt and other exotic yarns.

Varflex offers a wide range of sizing and custom colors are available upon request.

As our customer, you can choose to add any of the following products provided by Varflex to your order:

Coated Sleeving

Coated sleevings are used to satisfy electrical, thermal, physical, and chemical requirements. Braided fiberglass sleevings can be coated with silicone rubber, acrylic or resin-based coating for the highest protection. Coated sleeving is categorized based on temperature and dielectric strength. The thermal level provides sleeving that can operate continuously, and a grade is defined through dielectric strength breakdown or puncture voltage. Coated Sleevings offer the highest protection from abrasion, corrosion, temperatures and voltage.

Popular products: Varglas 240 Silicone Rubber, Varglas Viton® 231, Varglas ES-4400 Silicone Rubber, Varglas Silicone Rubber, Varglas Silicone Resin 500, Varglas A397 & 343 Acrylic, Varflo, Varfil, Varglas Hermetic

Uncoated Sleeving

Uncoated - untreated or lightly treated – sleevings are used for a second form of insulation, harnessing, physical protection and serve as good anchors for varnish treatments in electrical units. Due to this, treated sleeves provide a comprehensive list of applications with potting plastics where the sleeving acts as a base to support potting compounds to improve the electrical and mechanical characteristics of systems.

Popular brands: Varglas S1600 Sleeving, Silflex Sleeving, Varglas Non-Fray Sleeving, Varglas Nylon Sleeving, Varglas Litewall, Varflex Volan® Sleeving, Varflex Nomex®

Expandable Sleeving

Varflex carries Varspan expandable monofilament sleeving which provides mechanical protection to wire harnesses, cables, hydraulic lines, tubes, and hoses. Varflex Varspan is best used where mechanical protection and resistance to chemicals, jet fuel, diesel fuel, gasoline, lubricating oils, solvents, hydraulic fluids, water and salt water are prerequisites and flexibility through a wide range of operating temperatures is desired.

Varspan expandable sleeving is made with polyester monofilaments and offered in the following types of yarns: General Purpose (GP), Heavy Duty (HD), Flame Retardant (FR) and Halar (HT). All exhibit good mechanical, chemical and thermal stability in a temperature range of -70°C to +125°C.

Twisted and Plied Yarns

Varflex offers twisted and plied yarns that start with single-strand yarns composed of continuous, multi-filament fibers that are turned in the “Z” (reverse) twist direction. Ply frames ply two or more strands by twisting the strands in an opposite “S” (forward) twist direction into a balanced, multi-end yarn product having the desired diameter as well as increased tensile strength. Varflex can also process customer supplied yarns as well.

Wound Yarn Packages

Varflex has wound yarn packages available for braider machines. Customers can customize their own twisted and plied yarn to fit specific criteria. You can even combine different yarn constructions - giving you the ability to create your own braider package tailored to your specific sleeving sizes.

Overbraiding Capabilities

Custom overbraiding uses different braided design configurations with materials produced by the customer or Varflex. Overbraiding adds an extra layer of insulation that provides protection in applications where high temperatures, excessive abrasion, harmful chemicals, oils or moisture are present. Overbraiding is a versatile and cost-effective method for protecting any cable or wire harness using a wide range of fibers including Fiberglass, Nylon, Nomex®, Kevlar®, Polyester, and Polypropylene.
