Notice of NEMA WC27500 Revision Change
NEMA WC 27500 is the widely used Standard for Aerospace and Industrial Electric Cable replacing the obsolete MIL-DTL-27500 in 2001. NEMA released an update to the standard at the end of 2020 taking to revision “B”. Some of the changes are:
- Added basic wire symbols for AS22759/51–/58, /93–/96, and /193–/196
- Added jacket symbols 27 and 77 for the new abrasion-resistant XL-ETFE jacket material
- Added the Heavy Silver-coated shield symbols HS/HD
- Added alternate color code table for primary wires less than 0.031 in.
- Corrected the formulas for maximum cable diameter and cable weight
- Various minor editorial changes for correction/clarification
The standard sets a timeline for the change to happen. Qualified manufacturers have 6 months from the publication date, October 2020, of the new revision to change production to the newest revision letter.
Manufacturers that Lapp Tannehill work with, including Harbour Industries, has already started making the transition to be completed prior to the end of March.
Material produced to the previous revision letter may continue to be sold for 12 months after the publication date of the new revision in order to deplete inventories.
Material produced to the previous revision letter may also be sold after the 12-month period; however, the end-user must be notified in writing that the material is made to the previous revision letter, and the end-user must agree in writing to accept the material.
